Strikers Weekly - Week of January 28, 2019

On Saturday January 19th, McRoberts hosted a Core Competencies Ed Camp (Professional Development opportunity).  Teachers from around the province came together to share thoughts, ideas, and insights into how to best implement Core Competencies in schools.  Among the educators were 10 of our students.  Though they were the youngest and non eductors, in the eyes of some, they were an extremely valuable contributor to the discussions.  Below are some of the Twitter feedback provided by participants about our students.

A Feast for more than your Stomach....

Caution... dieters beware.  Students in Ms. Tsang's Senior Foods class tried their hand at cake decorating this past week.  The result, very delicious and beautiful treats.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

This Sunday, January 27th, is recognized as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as a day of commemoration to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.  On this day, the international community honours the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and millions of other victims of Nazism.

The following are examples of Found Poetry based on a series of testimonials from Holocaust survivors.  Students in Ms. Matheos Genocide Studies chose select words from each testimony, and were able to construct unique poems that honour the experience of each survivor.
