The end of this year is just around the corner.  Just five more weeks of classes and this group of grade 12's will be McRoberts Graduates.  

 

 

 

McRoberts Students to Play in Prestigious MusicFest Canada

... Meanwhile, two McRoberts band students, trumpeter Zephyr Clarke and drummer Thomas Vigneras, will play at MusicFest Canada as part of the Conn Selmer Centrestage Jazz Band, one of the most elite events, explained that school’s band teacher Jamie Carter.

Both Clarke and Vigneras have also been accepted to the McGill jazz program – the most prestigious jazz program in Canada and one that is considered on par with many top American music programs, Carter explained.

“The kids are being really, really resilient — auditioning during a pandemic,” he said.

Clarke and Vigneras will be joining a “crew” of Richmond School District grads studying at the McGill jazz program.

“We’re getting quite a foothold in the school there,” Carter said.

In the past few years, students from McRoberts have gone on to Berkeley, Juilliard and other well-known music schools.

Carter also credits the success of his students to the school district for keeping a strong elementary band program and supporting music....

​Open to students entering Gr 11 or 12 in Sept 2021+any student returning to complete grad requirements. Plumbing and Cooking held in SD38 schools and part of the program is spent with partner post-secondary school (PSI).
Other 12 programs are full-time at a PSI (semester)​.

MAY 30/21 Thompson Rivers University BEng in Software Engineering Extended Application Deadline. Admission requirements are 67% or higher in: ENGL 12, Pre-Calc 12, CHEM 11, PHYSICS 11 (only). BEng in Software Engineering Program offers small cohorts, an achievable admission requirement package, the only SENG program outside the lower mainland and an Engineering Degree at an affordable cost. MAY 31/ 21 Betty Spalton Scholarships Deadline

The Betty Spalton Trust Fund was established to provide financial support to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. This is merit-based and awards the successful candidate(s) $1,500 to be used for study and living expenses. Criteria:
•Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction.
•Preference will be given to students who are female and/or members of minority groups.
•Program of study may be either full or part time at any B.C. college, university, technical or trades institute.
•All applicants must be Canadian citizens.

MAY 31/21 Lisa Huus Memorial Bursary Deadline
The Lisa Huus Memorial Fund provides bursaries up to $5000 annually per recipient, to assist persons with disabilities to undertake or continue their post-secondary education for academic credit at the University of Victoria or other accredited post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. Bursaries may be used for items such as tuition fees, textbooks, equipment, transportation, residence, and support worker costs.

MAY 31/21 Luke Santi Memorial Award Deadline

$1,000 x 1. To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Have a minimum 80% average overall. B) Demonstrate a passion for physics outside of the normal academic environment (e.g. being a member of a local amateur astronomy club, volunteering with a physics association, etc). MAY 31/21 MADD Canada Youth Bursary Fund Deadline

$8,000 x 3 Awards. To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Be a Canadian citizen who has been severely injured or who has had a parent (or legal guardian), or sibling killed or severely injured as a result of an impaired driving crash. B) Be enrolled in a full-time, ministry-approved, post-secondary educational program in the fall. Note: This scholarship program is for students who are enrolled in or applying to retail, business, marketing or any other program that has ties to the retail industry post-secondary programs in September 2021. Criteria:

- Enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian college or university in Fall 2021

- Pursuing a retail, business or marketing/design-related program

- Currently working part-time or full-time within the retail industry

JUNE 1/21 Application Opens for UBC Academic Essentials Program running JUL 5/21 to AUG 12/21 - If you’ve accepted your offer from either UBC Okanagan or UBC Vancouver, you’re able to register for Academic Essentials. This free program prepares you for your UBC classes by taking part in our Academic Essentials courses before you begin your first term. These online courses let you learn the skills you’ll need for UBC at your own pace and give you a solid foundation to build on in September. UBC offers a number of courses as part of the program. You can choose to study Reading and Writing at University, Readiness for University Mathematics, Live Well to Learn Well, or all three. These online courses are not for credit and are offered free of cost. Each allows you to access a library of online material to learn in your own time, while also offering contact hours with Undergraduate Academic Assistants.

JUN 1/21 Scouts Canada Scholarship Program Deadline 6,000 X 17 Awards. To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Be a motivated youth whom, with the help of their Scouting experiences, have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and a desire to create a better world. B) Be entering or continuing full-time studies at a Canadian university or college. C) Show community leadership and contributions outside of scouting. JUN 1/21 KPU will still give students priority course registration dates if they apply before the deadline of June 1. If you are interested in attending KPU this fall, it’s not too late to receive priority registration dates for an open intake program if you meet all the admission requirements. The deadline to apply and complete applications (including paying confirmation deposit) for priority registration is June 1st.
