Striker's Weekly - Week of September 26, 2021

Grad Kick Off... first Grad Event of the year.  Good friends, good weather, and a chance to reconnect.  A simple but fun event.

NOTE - Timetable Change for Next Week

Please note, whenever a holiday or non-instructional day falls on either a Wednesday or Thursday, in order to allow each of the PLT/Two Block Days to run, we will be modifying our calendars.  As a result, our timetable will change for this week to accommodate this.  PLT/2 Block Days will run on Tuesday and Wednesday as Thursday September 30th is a holiday (National Day of Truth and Reconciliation).

Note: During Collaboration Days this year (always during PLT Time) students are welcome to be in the school.  There will be, however, less opportunities during this time to access staff during these days.

Collaboration Days will be:

  • September 28th
  • October 28th
  • November 24th
  • January 27th
  • February 23rd
  • March 31st
  • April 27th
  • May 26th

September Professional Development

Though it is always sad not to have students at the school, our staff took advantage of this month's professional development day looking at Indigenous Teaching Methods and Strategies, Communicating with Microsoft Teams as well as learning a little bit about Proficiency Based Grading.  All will require more time and more thought as we move forward.

Pick Up and Drop Offs

Though we are sounding like we are continually repeating ourselfves, we continue to get parents concerned about challenges around our drop off and pick up times.  While we know student safety is always a concern for parents, we also recognize that the congestion during drop off and pick up times increases the number of vehicles and pedestrians in a confined area.  This increases the risk for all involved.

We would ask all parents to be particularly careful during times of increased congestion.  If you can drop off or pick up outside of the peak times (even by 10-15 minutes), this will ease the burden for all involved.  This may involve having students arrive a bit earlier or leave a bit later.  The reduced number of cars at peak time, will however, increase the level of safety.

If you must pick up or drop off during these times, we would ask you to excercise patience.  The biggest cause of concern are cars that try to bypass other cars in getting to an intended spot cutting off cars in the process.

Grade 8 Day

On Friday, October 1, Teachers and Student Leaderships will be hosting 'Grade 8 Day'. Grade 8 classes will be cancelled for that day to create an opportunity for students to learn together as a grade, to understand more about the McRoberts community, and to set goals for their first year of high school. Students are asked to report to the Old Gym when they arrive at 8:30 am. Lunch will be provided for students. There will be more information posted at the main entrance of the school on the day of the event.

International Homestays Wanted

The Richmond School District is seeking short and longer term homestays for international students from over 30 countries starting immediately. We have over 20 years of experience supporting students and homestays in the Richmond area.  Get in touch with our homestay department to learn more about how you can welcome an international student into your home.
