FInding our Focus - May 2018
Focus Groups - May 2018
After asking staff for some Grade 9-12 students (with the sole criteria being that they would be comfortable speaking their mind and share openly their thoughts about our school), we conducted three separate focus groups. All provided us thoughtful comments, realistic ideas for school growth, and many insights that we may never have uncovered without this opportunity.
This information will become important as we continue to find our specific focus for our Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL). More importantly the insight from our students helped us better understand what they believe to be the priorities for us moving forward.
Three areas became important themes within these discussions:
- finding ways to support and enhance our assessment, evaluation, and grading practices
- helping students with life beyond high school - career development and career education
- supporting the development of the "soft skills" (Interpersonal Skills) - many of which can be found within the language of Core Competencies.
