Action Post #1-October 2026

What targeted actions did we take to address our school’s learning focus?

The McRoberts Pro-D Committee engaged district consultants Shaheen Musani and Kenny Hall to support staff in implementing instructional strategies aimed at improving outcomes for identified priority learners, specifically English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with diverse learning needs. Staff participated in a full-day professional learning session on September 25, 2026, followed by continued learning and reflection during a staff meeting on October 5, 2026.

In addition, discussions have begun with Educational Facilitators regarding department-specific goals, identified learner needs, and the actions required to address those needs. Facilitators are also developing plans to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions (see attached document).

What gap or problem were these actions intended to address? Why was this particular strategy/action chosen?
School and district data, including Graduation Assessment results and Student Learning Update data, indicate achievement gaps for English Language Learners and students with diverse learning needs. These actions were chosen to strengthen instructional practices, provide more targeted support, and improve access to learning opportunities for these priority learner groups.
What does the evidence tell us so far?

Initial data suggests there is an opportunity to strengthen literacy outcomes for priority learners. As the school year is still in its early stages, recently introduced instructional strategies are only beginning to be implemented. Current evidence has established baseline performance levels, which will allow staff to monitor the impact of changes over time.

We will continue to examine Student Learning Update data, Graduation Literacy Assessment results, and classroom-based evidence to determine whether the instructional and support changes are improving student outcomes.

To what extent are the actions making a difference?

While it is too early to measure the full impact of these initiatives, there are positive indicators. Teachers are actively engaging with and implementing strategies introduced through professional learning opportunities. The transition toward increased push-in support from ELL Supplemental teachers and regular Supplemental Resource check-ins for students with diverse learning needs is helping to create more responsive and inclusive support structures.

Further evidence, including Graduation Literacy Assessment results and Student Learning Update data, will help determine the extent to which these actions are contributing to improved student achievement and engagement.

How will we move forward accordingly? Moving forward, staff will continue to collaborate in supporting priority learners through instructional planning, targeted interventions, and ongoing monitoring of student progress. We will use a range of evidence sources to evaluate the effectiveness of our strategies, celebrate areas of success, and make adjustments where needed. Our goal is to ensure that all McRoberts students are supported in achieving meaningful academic growth and success.
