School Learning Story Action Post #2
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | Our Literacy Leader shared results from the Fall PBA exam with Grade 8 teachers to help identify students who might struggle with word skills. She then followed up with "Bitesized" teaching strategies handouts for teachers in November, December and January. These documents provide teachers with very "easy-to-use" teaching strategies deliberately targeting the areas of Summarizing and Identifying Main Ideas (seen in teh Fall PBAs as areas of potential weakness for our Grade 8 students). Our Grade 8 team continues to meet monthly, articulating areas of strength as well as stretches for our Grade 8 students. The team has developed monthly "Tip sheets" for Grade 8 learners (see below). |
| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | The actions taken by our Grade 8 Team and our Literacy Team (both of whom meet monthly) have been extremely beneficial and designed to support teachers and students with teaching and learning strategies, largely targeted at Literacy skills. We know these strategies are working because we have seen improvements in academic achievement in our Grade 8 population as well as in PBA scores (see attached Powerpoint) |
